A note from Dividing Line Sports.com:

There has been some confusion over which baseball bats are legal for college and high school league play for the upcoming 2011 season.  The NCAA has mandated that all college players use a bat which is BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient Restitution) certified for the 2011 season.  The BBCOR standard requires the ball to leave the bat with less energy than the old BESR standard, increasing player safety.  The NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) will follow the NCAA lead and mandate BBCOR bats beginning in the 2012 season.

This means that college players must have a BBCOR bat for the upcoming year.  High School players can still use a metal bat that meets the old BESR requirement.  In fact, high school players who use a BBCOR bat in 2011 will be at a disadvantage using a bat that is less energetic than their competitors.

Adding to the confusion is the NFHS ban on certain composite bats for the upcoming 2011 season.  Some composite bats have been found to become even more energetic as they break in, allowing the bat to actually exceed the old BESR performance standard.  Composite baseball bats are NOT LEGAL for the 2011 high school season unless otherwise specified by the NFHS.

This is a link to the NFHS web site detailing which composite bats are approved for use in the 2011 baseball season:

All composite and metal bats available for sale on Dividing Line Sports.com will be clearly marked on our web site as to which standard the bat meets and in which scholastic leagues the bat is legal to use.  Local recreation leagues and tournaments make their own rules so be sure to check with the appropriate governing body before purchasing a bat for use in a league or tournament.
